Talking Back The Throne tells the story of one of the most successful seasons in Dundalk Football Club’s long and proud history.

In his final campaign in charge of the Lilywhites, Stephen Kenny’s wonderful group of players swept all before them in 2018, winning their fourth SSE Airtricity League title in five years before going on to win the double with victory over Cork City in the FAI Cup final at the Aviva Stadium.

A monumental season for Dundalk Football Club required a larger print format to encapsulate all the content. Increasing in size from the previous three publications which we designed, 'Taking Back The Throne' was a far more robust print piece with over 300 pages. Working with a range of local and international sports photographers, the writer and editor, Gavin McLaughlin, gave us free reign creatively to design this book. It went on to win the FAI Sports Publication of the Year award for 2019.

Typographic pace, tempo and hierarchy are all extremely important in any sports publication. There is a range of statistical information, expressive editorial writing, along with pull-quotes etc. We chose to use a reductive typography range for this book, with headlines set in Akzidenz-Grotesk Extended, body text uses Freight Text and Founders Grotesk is used for captions.
