Branding & Identity | Re-brand & Re-launch

Blackthorn Shoes are an iconic Dundalk | Irish company,
who have been in operation since 1911.
A family run business, over the years the company has had
to adapt and reinvent itself to deal with various economic and
market shifts. Grandson were luckily enough to be on hand to
help with the brands current identity, producing a new logotype for the brand.

We trawled through the archives to research all various iterations
of the brands identity – the original logo, which had been altered
and eroded over time through lack of consistency and interpretation.

We then worked on creating something that was a more contemporary,
while still remaining inline aesthetically to the original version, and also
reflecting the physical craft and industry behind actually making the shoes themselves.

We found and used a perfect typeface – GT Sectra by GrilliType.
The angular, askew and rugged slab serif elements worked,
coupled with the actual strength of the brands name itself – "BlackThorn",
to create a logotype that has clout, heritage and solidity that reflects the product itself.

Website Design & Development

We created a bespoke Wordpress website,
with full eCommerce platform
– fully responsive across all platforms and devices.

The website itself had to be highly polished and have
seamless UX, showing the product to the best capacity,
and also coupling this with the history and heritage behind the brand itself.

We managed to unearth some lovely historic photographic
content, paring this with high end modern photography – provided by Eoin Holland.

The website has duel functionality, firstly in the sense
as a brochure site, showcasing the product and describing
it in detail, with the option to download a PDF inventory.

Secondly, we have built a fully integrated eCommerce
platform aimed at selling to the global market.

Mobile Responsive Design

The website is also fully mobile responsive on
all platforms and devices.
